GALLERY: Is this the new normal? Check out these startling pictures of Aberdeen in lockdown

A deserted Union Street in Aberdeen during lockdown.

We might be three weeks into lockdown, but seeing our streets so quiet is still taking a bit of getting used to.

The sun has been shining in the north-east and after a long winter, this is normally the time you begin to see a lot more people out and about.

Parks begin to fill up with joggers and picnics, bars and restaurants pack out and thousands of people head out to beaches.

Unfortunately, that is not the case in 2020.

As weird as that seems, this is actually good news.

Police Scotland have recently been very complimentary about the way people in the north and north-east have responded to the unprecedented restrictions.

As the UK and Scottish governments have outlined, it is incredibly important that people continue to stay at home as much as possible to help minimise the impact on the NHS.

So for a little while longer at least, pictures like the gallery below put together by amateur photographer Donald Allan remain our reality.

The 29-year-old NHS worker lives in Aberdeen city centre and snapped the deserted streets while out on his daily exercise trips at the end of last month.

Donald said: “I’m managing to cope with the lockdown so far but it’s been an adjustment not being able to see my friends, family or my girlfriend.

“I miss them all but I can’t wait to see them once the lockdown has been lifted.”
