North-east teachers make hilarious Tik Tok-inspired video to cheer up pupils

North-east primary school staff have taken inspiration from a craze sweeping social media in a humorous effort to cheer up pupils during lockdown.

Employees from Meethill Primary and Nursery in Peterhead have created their own music video similar to those which have become increasingly popular on social media app Tik Tok.

The four-minute video, set to the theme tune of American sitcom Full House, took them five days to piece together.

It documents the lives of teachers at home, showing them surrounded by Harry Potter books and merchandise, reading with their pets, rummaging through bags of sweeties, playing with their own tots and even appearing to hula hoop while playing a ukulele.

One clip shows a teacher “doing her daily exercise” by cycling around the deserted school before stopping to wave at the camera.

P1 teacher Molly Curtis had the idea, and said her colleagues “jumped at the chance” to spread some cheer when they were approached.

Miss Curits said: “After seeing some heartwarming videos of other schools in our community sharing messages for their pupils, I suggested to the Meethill staff team that we take on this challenge ourselves.

“Taking some inspiration from Tik Tok, we decided that we wanted to do something lighthearted and funny to make our families smile in what is a difficult time for many.”

The video has now been viewed about 5,000 times with many voicing their approval on social media.

Head teacher John Black said: “The school plays a very important role in the community and the message is very genuine.  The number of views suggests that it’s a sentiment felt by both staff and families.

“Staff had a lot of fun putting it together and we are very appreciative of the work of Miss Curtis who edited all the clips together.”

Miss Curtis added: “We are all so happy that the video has been received so well by the community.

“Parents and pupils both expressed their happiness and they shared our hope that normality will resume again soon.”
