A popular north-east walking route has been closed off amid fears visitors could be left badly hurt.
Aberdeenshire Council said there is a “serious risk” of falling masonry from the undersides of the Ellon Viaduct.
It has sealed off access to parts of the north and south banks of the River Ythan where they meet the structure, in order to keep people safe.
The Formartine and Buchan Way over the viaduct is still open.
A statement from the council said: “The closures will unfortunately remain in place until further notice due to the nature of the repair works required.
“Further information will be provided once detailed inspections have taken place.
“While we appreciate that this route has become a particularly popular route for recreation during the current pandemic, we would urge the public to avoid this affected area and instead enjoy some of the other beautiful routes the area has to offer.”
