Four residents have died following an outbreak of coronavirus at a north-east care home.

The operators of Crimond House Care Home, in the village between Fraserburgh and Peterhead on the north-east coast, tonight confirmed the fatalities.

A spokeswoman said: “The health and safety of our residents is our top priority and we have taken all measures possible to minimise the potential outbreak of Covid-19.

“There were a number of cases at Crimond House and very sadly four residents died following a positive test.

“Where possible a family member was present and our thoughts and condolences are with their family and friends during this very difficult time.

“We support our staff who have developed relationships with our residents and their families and continue to follow rigorous infection control procedures in line with Health Protection Scotland guidance.”

The spokeswoman added that full testing of the other residents has now completed with results confirming that all residents are clear of the virus “at this time”.

Earlier today, Health Secretary Jeane Freeman revealed that care home workers will now be repeatedly tested for Covid-19.

The Scottish Government has faced pressure to introduce 100% testing for residents and employees following concerns about safety in a number of centres, including the Home Farm care home in Skye where 10 residents have now died.

Multiple residents of Kirkburn Court Care Home in Peterhead have also died – but operators Barchester Healthcare have refused to say how many.
