The body of a 44-year-old man has been found in an Aberdeen flat.

The discovery was made at a property on Jamaica Street last night.

Police are treating the death as “unexplained” as they await postmortem results.

Chairman of the George Street Community Council, Andy Macleod, lives on Jamaica Street and is directly across from the flat where the man’s body was found.

He said: “We seen an ambulance at the property on Monday night, sometime between 9pm and 12am, and police were sitting outside of the property on Tuesday morning but everything was really quiet.

“It’s never good to hear of the death of a neighbour for whatever reason.

“I don’t know who the man is but if he had family my thoughts are with them. it is already a hard enough time for everybody.”

Councillor Michael Hutchinson added: “I’m saddened to hear about this death and my thoughts are with their family and friends at this time.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police Scotland can confirm that the body of a man was found at an address in Jamaica Street in Aberdeen on Monday, 25 May, 2020.

“The death is being treated as unexplained pending the results of a postmortem examination.”
