Members of Aberdeen’s Multicultural centre have set up shop on the city’s Hutcheon Street to distribute 1,000 face coverings.
After finding difficulty in acquiring them for his family, centre manager Ahashan Habib decided to secure coverings that could be used by the whole community.
The 41 year-old said: “There is a massive demand for face masks and coverings in the community and throughout Aberdeen.
“When this all first started I tried to get face coverings for myself and my family online and they still haven’t arrived.
“At the Multicultural Centre we are always trying to look at way we can help the community and people of Aberdeen.
“I have seen that very few people in Aberdeen have face coverings so we plan to help people who need them, get them.”
“That is why as a group we went out and found a supplier able to give us really good examples at a good price.”
The group now has 1,000 items ready for distribution, which will be given out for free on a first-come-first-served basis on Hutcheon Street from noon today.
The centre has been using its social media to promote the event and expects demand for the face coverings to be high.
