Animal sanctuary Willows is calling on supporters to help it raise £6,000 to fund urgent repairs to buildings damaged during a storm earlier this year.

The steadings at the sanctuary and assisted therapy centre, at Lambhill Farm, near Strichen, were brought to the ground during high winds earlier this summer.

Volunteers believe repair works will cost around £6,000, and that’s money the charity, which looks after more than 500 animals and birds due to lockdown restricting visitors.

“Some of the big barns and buildings on site were badly damaged in a storm and other buildings are in urgent need of repair before the site can re0pen,” charity volunteer Hannah Darnell said. “More stables are also needed for ageing residents to ensure that all the animals have the quality of life they deserve.”

Since its launch yesterday, the Big Barn Appeal has raised more than £1,000 towards its target.

A separate appeal to buy building materials for Fraserburgh firm SGC Joinery, offering up labour free of charge, has also raised more than £200.

“Willows doesn’t have the funds to make these essential repairs, or carry out the urgent  works,” Ms Darnell added. “We have worked so hard to keep it all together, even with Covid-19 taking away 50% of the normal revenue stream.”
