A charity set up by the parents of a north-east youngster with a rare medical condition will benefit from a £10,000 fundraising campaign run by an Aberdeen firm.

ThinkPR has set the target as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations.

The money raised will go to the Alfie Milne Lymphangiomatosis Trust which was created by the family of six-year-old Culter boy Alfie Milne, who was diagnosed with lymphangiomatosis at 18 months old.

He is one of only a handful of people in the UK with the disorder, which causes tumours or cysts to grow on the body’s lymph system.

Among the fundraising initiatives from the ThinkPR team will be strawberry and cream deliveries to clients during Wimbledon fortnight.

Company founder Annabel Sall said: “Reaching 10 years of business is a major milestone and we wanted to celebrate this achievement in a meaningful way, which would allow us to involve the whole team and also our clients and friends.

“When we heard about Alfie and his family, we wanted to do what we could to help them.”

The charity works to raise public awareness of the condition, promote services for those affected by the illness and support research into causes and treatment.

Alfie’s mum Tracy Milne said the team was delighted with the support.

“It’s a family-run charity so it’s just myself, my husband and our friends,” she said.

“When a company like ThinkPR take on the challenge to raise £10,000 it’s just fantastic.

“It would take us a lot of time and effort to raise the money ourselves, and I just can’t thank them enough.

“Most research at the moment is done in America and Europe, and we’re working with existing organisations to help fund the work they do. We’re just about to start on a project to fund genetic research at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.”

ThinkPR representatives will also be making individual 10km race attempts, as well as team efforts such as a slave auction, a quiz night and the 2014 Glack Attack near Dunecht.
