A north-east community council is dishing out cash to local businesses to help them cover the costs of PPE.

The Mintlaw and District Community Council has launched the fund to help hard-pressed traders in the Aberdeenshire village.

The Mintlaw PPE Business Support Fund was set up after members of the group received a £2,500 grant from the Scotland’s Towns Partnership and Bids Resilience and Recovery Fund which was put in place by the Scottish Government.

A Community Council spokeswoman said: “We are lucky to have such a diverse range of well-run businesses based in Mintlaw.

“We hope the Mintlaw PPE Business Support Fund will help to demonstrate to the local businesses that their efforts have been greatly appreciated.”

All businesses based in Mintlaw are encouraged to apply for funding of up to £100 towards the additional costs faced by them in the last few months.

The fund will be open for applications up to September 21 and the community council expects recipients to receive payments by the end of the month.

Some members of the organisation are also part of Mintlaw Matters, a group of volunteers that responded to almost 600 requests for help from those self-isolating in and around the village.

The scheme was recently recognised by Aberdeen Voluntary Action with a “community spirit award” for its work.
