An overdue public consultation info the potential sale of a north-east park is being taken online to avoid any further delays.

The proposed sale of Canal Park in Banff was supposed to go before an eight-week public consultation in March, but that was put on hold with the coronavirus lockdown.

As a large portion of the site is common good land belonging to the community, the council must consult the public on the sale before seeking permission from Banff Sheriff Court.

However Banff and Buchan councillors heard this week that a public consultation is still on-hold due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Town councillor Glen Reynolds said information on the delay was “worryingly vague” and pushed for a firm start date.

He said: “Bearing in mind that statutory consultation for the old vinery in Banff is going ahead and we are in lockdown, I don’t fully buy into the explanation that the delay is wholly due to the Covid-19 situation.”

Banff and Buchan area manager Angela Keith said work is ongoing to develop a n online consultation.

She added: “There is some work to be done in terms of dialogue with interested parties and number of other elements that need to be concluded before we can move to that consultation process.”

The consultation, confirming details of an interested buyer, is expected to launch in October.
