Aberdeen fans are being urged to enjoy themselves safely and responsible, ahead of the Europa match in the Netherlands this week.

The Dons will play FC Groningen tomorrow following their recent home fixture which ended 0-0.

Superintendent Innes Walker, who will be leading a Police Scotland delegation to Holland, said: “The home fixture passed without incident and the communities of our great city of Aberdeen made around 700 friendly Groningen supporters very welcome.

“This is what I would expect from the Dons fans who have an excellent reputation as football supporters in both Scotland and across Europe.

“I have every expectation that as usual the vast majority of Aberdeen fans will behave impeccably in Groningen.

“However it is my duty to advise anyone who is thinking of becoming involved in any trouble that Police Scotland will be working closely with the Dutch authorities to ensure that the fixture passes without incident. This approach is one which will continue to be employed at future fixtures if Aberdeen progress in the Europa league.

“Fans travelling for the game should be aware that the Dutch local authorities have made a fan zone in an area of bars in the centre of Groningen. It is called ‘Poeleplein’ and ‘Poelestraat’.

“The area is 2.6 km from the Euroborg Stadium. Fans should be encouraged to gather there. We want fans from both teams to enjoy the event in Groningen.”
