The grieving parents of a man who died in an early morning crash in Aberdeen’s west end said last night he had “the heart of a lion”.

Adam Small suffered fatal injuries when his motorcycle went out of control in the city’s King’s Gate.

The 29-year-old, of Stornoway Crescent, Sheddocksley, was riding a black Honda Vision 110 scooter when it crashed close to the junction with Forest Road.

Yesterday, his father Mark Small said the whole family had been left “shocked and devastated”.

He said: “Adam was a very loving son. He was a really big-hearted loon. He had the heart of a lion.

“He was very popular and had a lot of friends.

“He was also a very close to his older brother Marc and his younger brother Dylan.

“He is really going to be missed.”

Mr Small, who was working offshore when his son died, also thanked his employers, the Wood Group, for flying him home so quickly.

He added: “They were very good to me and they got me home on time.”

Mother Shona Small said her son, a former Hazlehead Academy pupil who worked as a scaffolder in Aberdeen, had been riding scooters since he was 17.

He also loved football, and had been at Pittodrie supporting the Dons as they beat Partick Thistle 2-0 the day before he died.

When they heard the crash, residents in King’s Gate residents rushed to help Mr Small and alerted emergency services.

An ambulance crew took him to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary but he died from his injuries.

Police cordoned-off King’s Gate, from the Atholl Hotel to the North Anderson Drive roundabout, for more than four hours while collision investigators tried to piece-together what had caused the accident.

Last night, police made a fresh appeal for witnesses to the smash to contact them.

A spokesman said: “Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or saw the Honda motorcycle prior to the collision should contact police on 101.”

The accident happened shortly before 6am on Sunday.
