Stonehaven’s annual Hogmanay bash has added two star Scottish performers to its line up.

X Factor contestant Emily Middlemas will be joined on the bill by rising singer-songwriter Carrie Mac.

Schoolgirl Emily, won the Teenstar competition this year in Birmingham and later appeared on the X Factor where she received praise from Simon Cowell.

Edinburgh based Carrie Mac has been seen on billboards all over the country following the release of her new single Good Love After Bad. She has also toured alongside Alexandra Burke, Deacon Blue, Diana Vickers, The Proclaimers and Eliza Doolittle.

Other acts performing at the turn of the year at the Open Air in the Square in the town’s Market Square include pop veterans The Human League and award winning folk group The Peatbog Fairies.

Press spokesman for the event Neil Horne said: “With the addition of Emily and Carry we are catering across the age spectrum. Human League are about to go on a major UK tour and are selling out everywhere. We hope to ride on the back of that success.”

He also thanked the Bank of Scotland Community Fund and the Meikle Carewe Farm community fund for providing financial backing for the event.

Michelle Ward, chairwoman of Stonehaven Festival and Events, said: “We’re all getting really excited for the event in Stonehaven because it is getting close now. This is the third year we have run this event and we expect another sellout as the previous two were.”

The Human League’s 1980s hit Don’t You Want Me soared to the top of the charts after Aberdeen FC fans changed the lyrics to “Peter Pawlett Baby” in tribute to the Dons favourite who missed out on the Scottish League Cup final success last March due to a groin injury.
