A north-east touring car racer has lost his contract with his race team after being convicted of drink-driving.

Racing champion Glynn Geddie was over the limit when he was stopped by officers while driving his Range Rover in Westhill early in the morning of August 19 this year.

A breath test showed he had 52 microgrammes of alcohol in 100millilitres of breath. The legal limit at the time of the offence, which happened on Westhill Drive, was 35mcg.

The 24-year-old admitted drink-driving at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, and was disqualified from driving for a year.

Since 2013, he has raced for United Autosports, competing in the British GT Championship and winning the Dutch Supercar Challenge.

Earlier this year Geddie, of 7 Countesswells Place, Aberdeen, raced in the British Touring Car Championship with the team, but was suspended for the remainder of the season after being charged with drink driving.

Last night, Geddie confirmed he had lost his contract with United Autosports but refused to comment any further.

United Autosports were not available to comment last night.

The court heard Geddie “stupidly” got behind the wheel after he received a text from his girlfriend in the early hours of the morning.

Defence agent Mike Monro said: “The situation is he had been drinking in a hostelry close to where he lived, he went home with no intention of driving until the next day.

“He would have been quite safe to drive the next day. He got a message from his girlfriend in Westhill asking him to come and see her, stupidly he drove.

“As a result of being prosecuted his racing contract was cancelled immediately.”
