Popular street art festival Nuart Aberdeen – which has transformed many city buildings since it began in 2017 – is back for its 2022 edition.

What is Nuart?
Nuart is a street art festival which will see artists transforming grey city walls into works of art. And in addition to street artists creating new murals, the festival weekend will feature events, community workshops, talks, as well as tours of the new works.
When will the festival take place?
The festival will take place until Sunday June 12, with thousands of people expected to head into the city centre.
Which artists are part of this year’s festival?
Martin Whatson, who took part in Aberdeen’s first Nuart festival, creating a hugely popular mural of a golfer on Queen Street in 2017, is back this year.

Included in the line-up is also Glasgow stencil artist James Klinge who makes his festival debut and Spanish artist and activist Jofre Oliveras whose striking murals promise new connections with the city’s spaces.
The remaining artists are: Spanish artist Pejac, who mainly paints with black, Portuguese artist Nuno Viegas, Barcelona-based Slim Safont, Copenhagen-based muralist JACOBA, London-based artist and activist for trans rights Erin Holly, Spanish artist Elisa Capdevila, Moroccan artist Mohamed L’Ghacham, and Miss Printed from Norway.

What are Inspired Nights?
Nuart will be officially opened at 1pm on Saturday June 11 as part of a special Inspired Nights event.
Inspired Nights will feature music, street food, bars and creative spaces for both children and adults. The street food market, which previously took place on The Green, will bring together a wide range of food and drink traders.
It will run all weekend on Broad Street from noon until 9pm on Friday and Saturday and until 6pm on Sunday.
In addition, free walking tours around the new art installations will kick off after the official launch ceremony and run at regular times on Saturday and Sunday.
Can I take part in Chalk Don’t Chalk?
Yes, anyone aged 3+ can take part in the upcoming Nuart event Chalk Don’t Chalk which will take place on Sunday June 12 from 11am to 3pm outside Marischal Square on Broad Street.
Everyone’s invited to scrawl and draw in an attempt to create Scotland’s largest temporary outdoor public gallery.
What about other events?
The festival conference programme will kick off with a screening of Martha: A Picture Story which documents the life and rise of the exceptional American photojournalist.

Free Street Collage Workshops with Miss.Printed and Rhed Fawell will take place on Friday June 10 and Saturday June 11 from 11am to 1pm at North East Scotland College, Gallowgate.
Who is behind Nuart Aberdeen 2022?
The street art festival is curated and produced by Stavanger-based arts organisation Nuart in collaboration with Aberdeen Inspired.
