Despite the blustery weather, hundreds of visitors flooded Hazlehead Park in a celebration of culture and and festivities.

After two years of not being able to go ahead, the Aberdeen Highland Games made a grand return on Sunday giving many visitors a memorable, fun-filled day out.

Decked out in raincoats and umbrellas to combat the wind and grey skies, visitors enjoyed seeing highland dancers, athletes and pipers competing for the top spots in the city park.

Aberdeen’s Lord Provost and chieftain of the games David Cameron officially opened the event before dozens of athletes took to the arena.

Crowds watching in awe followed each performance with applause while many families made the most of the funfair, family entertainment and free children’s activities.
