These are the cars police believe thieves used to steal tens of thousands of pounds from under the noses of staff at a north-east cash handling firm.

Around £65,000 was taken by an organised gang more than a week ago from Loomis at the Altens Industrial Estate while three employees worked at the firm’s HQ.

The raiders had been using stolen cars, which they fled the premises with – cash in hand – on Thursday, February 12.

Last night, officers appealed to anyone who had seen the vehicles in the lead-up to the theft to contact the force, and released pictures to help jog people’s memories.

They include a light blue Mini bearing the registration plates YS12RZF, a White Landrover Freelander with the registration plates ML61TYY and a Black Hyundi ix35 with registration plates EF61XMO.

Police have CCTV footage of the vehicles parked beside each other in Alten’s Thistle Hotel car park before the raid.

The vehicles had also been seen earlier being driven around the area.

The Mini was found abandoned near the scene of the incident, while the other two vehicles were recovered at Wellington Terrace in Cove.

Detective Inspector Stewart Mackie said: “These vehicles are believed to have been used or stored in the Cove/ Tullos areas in the days leading up to Thursday, February 12.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen these vehicles and the occupants before or after the incident to contact police on 101.”

Following enquiries, police revealed that a high five-figure sum of money had been stolen after the thieves forced their way into the premises at Souterhead Road around 7.35pm.

A Loomis spokesman said: “We work closely with the police. We just hope that the police appeal is successful.

“We have very few incidents like this in the UK because we are adequately protected.”
