Two teenagers have appeared in court accused of stealing cars in the north-east.

Kenneth Balgown appeared in private at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday to face a string of offences, including stealing two motors and theft by housebreaking.

He was also accused of driving without a licence and insurance, being in possession of a controlled drug and two charges of reset.

The 17-year-old made no plea when he appeared before Sheriff Alison Stirling and his case was committed for further examination.

Balgown, of Aberdeen, was released on bail.

Sixteen-year-old Don Bowie also appeared at the city’s sheriff court yesterday, facing five motoring offences.

Bowie, of 13c Manor Walk, Aberdeeen, is accused of stealing a Suzuki Jimny 4×4 convertible from an address on Kinmundy Drive, Westhill, on Friday.

He is also alleged to have driven a stolen Seat Leon that same night while he was not old enough to hold a full drivers’ licence and was not insured.

He was further accused of stealing a quantity of fuel from the Torq Service Station on Great Northern Road.

Bowie denied all the charges against him.

Last night a spokesman for the Crown Office said three other youths had also been reported to the fiscal in relation to car crime in the north-east, however, no charges have been brought against them.

He said: “A report was received relating to two males aged 19 and 22 and a 19-year-old female in connection with the same incident.

“Following full and careful consideration of all of the facts and circumstances, and the available evidence, the procurator fiscal decided there should be no proceedings against them in relation to this matter.”
