Residents are being urged to have their say on plans to build a new maternity hospital and cancer centre in Aberdeen.

NHS Grampian’s proposal to build the Baird Family Hospital and Anchor Centre at the Foresterhill campus goes out to public consultation next Tuesday.

The Baird Family Hospital will include maternity, gynaecology, breast screening and breast surgery services as well as a neonatal unit, a centre for reproductive medicine, and an operating theatre suite.

There will also be research and teaching facilities.

The ANCHOR Centre will provide out-patient and day-patient investigation and treatment services for people with cancer and for patients with blood disorders.

NHS Grampian’s Jackie Bremner said plans were still at a very early stage but urged the public to come along and find out more.

She said architects and clinical staff would be on hand to explain how the two developments would improve health services and also the impact they would have on the local community.

She added: “This event is the first opportunity for people to learn about the latest phase in modernising the Foresterhill health campus.

“We hope that the feedback we receive will help us to make the buildings and services work well with the other health services on the campus and to be valued by neighbours and the wider community.

“We were delighted earlier this year with the response we received from the public when we asked for suggestions for naming these two important new developments, and we look forward to continuing to engage and involve people as this major project progresses.”
