Serial Aberdeen child sex offender jailed for string of new crimes

A serial sex offender who was spared jail for molesting a schoolboy was behind bars last night after he admitted committing four new offences.

Lee Chapman was put on probation at the High Court in Edinburgh in 2009 after he admitted pinning down the youngster before performing a sex act on him.

At the time the court heard Chapman told police he was scared of being alone with children as “he did not know what he may do”.

Last year Chapman admitted making and being in possession of indecent images of children.

Yesterday, the 29-year-old appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court and admitted four charges.

His agent, solicitor Stewart Murray, said his client had confessed to him that he felt safe in jail and would re-offend as soon as he was released.

Between November 12, 2012 and June 22, 2013 Chapman was in contact with a 13-year-old boy when he knew he was under an order which banned him from doing so.

Between November 25, 2012 and January 12, 2014 Chapman was also using the alias Abi Smith, and failed to tell police.

And he sent two young boys sexually explicit images and messages over the course of more than a year.

The court heard Chapman was the subject of a risk of sexual harm order (RSHO) at the time of some of his offences after it was put in place to protect children from him.

Yesterday, Sheriff Annella Cowan deferred sentence on Chapman.
