A man has admitted threatening a psychiatrist at an Aberdeen hospital after he refused to give him medication.

Musa Doria told Dr Robyn McRitchie he was going to take a knife and threaten random members of the public if he did not give him the tablets he wanted.

When the doctor refused to prescribe him the drugs during an appointment at Royal Cornhill Hospital, Doria became aggressive and started shouting and swearing.

Dr McRitchie called the police as he feared for the public’s safety.

Yesterday Doria, 42, appeared at the city’s sheriff court and admitted acting in a threatening and abusive manner on July 16.

Solicitor Gregor Kelly said his client suffered from mental health issues and could tell when he was due to suffer from an episode.

He said he accepted that he was of sound mind on this occasion, however he believed he was going to relapse and wanted the medication to help.

When the doctor refused to prescribe him the drugs, Doria became frustrated and lashed out.

Mr Kelly said he was not actually threatening to harm the public, but merely stating his concern that if he was not given the medication he may have an episode and do something he should not.

Sheriff Kenneth Stewart deferred sentence on Doria, of 23f Jamica Street, Aberdeen, for background reports to be carried out. He was released on bail.
