Residents of an Aberdeenshire care home are preparing to move back in to the “brand new” facility which will be decorated with artwork by local photographers.

The Bellfield Care Home in Banchory has undergone an eight month transformation and will welcome back 20 residents on Tuesday.

All rooms now have en-suite shower facilities and there is a new kitchen, laundry room and new carpets throughout.

The number of bedrooms has risen from 27 to 34.

Deputy care home manager Jeanette Abel said: “Everyone is really excited and it is just great to have this brand new home to go back to.

“The residents are quite anxious but looking forward to it.

“Some of the residents are going to visit Bellfield with their relatives to see it this weekend before they move in.”

The residents have been looked after at Rubislaw Park in Aberdeen while the work was ongoing.

Deeside photographer Logan Sangster launched the Bellfield Photography Project to collect local images to display in the home.

His mother, Fay Sangster, recently became a resident and said he wanted to do something for her and her new companions after being impressed with the care she has received so far.

Mr Sangster said: “My mother, Fay Sangster, has just been accepted into the Bellfield Care Home, and the care she has received in her first few weeks at the temporary home at Rubislaw Park in Aberdeen has been outstanding.

“A few of the residents have some form of dementia and photographs can be beneficial for them, especially of local places of interest.

“The home is looking great – it is like a five-star hotel.”

Mr Sangster said 45 photographs have been framed and are ready to be hung in the home tomorrow.

An exhibition of all the pictures is being held at the former DFS Sport shop on Banchory High Street.

The “pop-up” gallery is open today from 10am-noon and 2pm-4pm.

Mr Sangster said those visiting the exhibition so far had donated more than £300 to the Friends of Bellfield who hope to buy plants for the new gardens at the home.
