Plans have been launched to rebuild an Aberdeen takeaway shop which was ravaged in a fire last year.

The site of the award winning takeaway, Sea Salt and Sole, in Dyce was gutted when fire broke out in November. The blaze also destroyed the premises of the after-school club, J Puddleducks, but it too is scheduled to be rebuilt.

Plans have been submitted to Aberdeen City Council by Squire Agents to repair the building with a pledge to have “virtually the same footprint.”

Rikki Pirie, the owner of the chip shop, said he was looking forward to serving customers again.

He added: “The insurance means we can get the building back to how it was before the fire.

“I am looking forward to getting back to serving our loyal customers.

“We hope to be open in December, around a year after the fire took place.”

His chipper had only been open for a year, but was very popular in Dyce and was nominated for the best newcomer accolade at the National Fish and Chip Awards 2016 – the only shop in Scotland to make the semi-finals.

Joanne Fowler, owner of the after school club, was also looking forward to getting back into the repaired building:

She said: “We have been relocated to the after school club to the community centre, and they have been really generous, but it will be nice to be back in the building which was built for us.”

A statement from Squire Agents said: “This proposal seeks planning permission for the erection of replacement buildings in a modern design, but replicating the massing of the previous building.

“The siting and design of the building will replace the previous premises on virtually the same footprint.”

It added: “The development complies with the relevant Planning Policies of the Local Development Plan and replaces buildings destroyed by fire.”
