Colourful blooms brightened up an Aberdeen park over the weekend during the city’s annual flower show.

The Royal Horticultural Society of Aberdeen hosted the event yesterday and Saturday, and visitors admired the variety of colourful flowers, vegetables and crafts on display in the David Welch Winter Gardens in Duthie Park.

Society secretary Hazel Main said last night it had been a resounding success.

The family event featured a raffle, bric-a-brac and other stalls, with a large number of floral art displays on show.

Mrs Main, of Portlethen, said: “It has gone very well. A good amount of folk came, there was a lot of entries and the whole weekend has gone very successfully.

“People came from out and about.

“I think now we can start to relax a bit. The next one is in August, the summer show.”

The prize giving was conducted by Lord Provost George Adam, who added: “There was a lot of visitors. It was really colourful. Being an amateur gardener I can only aspire to what they achieve.

“It was particularly pleasing to handover trophies to three children who had entered the young peoples section. They are the gardeners of the future.”
