Two women are seriously injured following a two car collision on an Aberdeenshire road.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were all been called to the collision between a Ford Fiesta and a Volkswagen Jetta on the B9170 Inverurie to Oldmeldrum road, at Barravale.

The accident took place at about 11.50am and police are diverting traffic away from the road.

The two injured women are believed to have been the drivers of each respective vehicle.

A police spokesman said the severity of the crash was still being assessed.

He added: “We are still waiting on a medical update. It is clearly the upper end of the scale, serious level (injuries). It is being classified as a serious road traffic collision.

“It came into us at 11.50am.”

He could not say if anyone had been injured, however firefighters have assisted paramedics with first aid on the scene.

Three fire appliances – two from Inverurie and one from Oldmeldrum – were called to the incident.

A fire and rescue spokeswoman said: “We got the call at 11.59am and we have got three appliances there just now. The stop message came back at 12.20pm.

“They were helping paramedics with a first aid. They were also making the vehicles safe.”
