Queen’s Birthday Honours: Here are the 16 people from the north-east on the list

Sixteen people from across the  north-east are among 1,149 people to be acclaimed in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

A number of famous names were also included on the list, such as Rod Stewart, 71 – full name Roderick David Stewart – whoreceived a knighthood for his services to music and charity, and “promised to wear it well”.

Seventy per cent of the awards went to people who had undertaken outstanding work in or for their local community, either in a voluntary or paid capacity. Around 10.8% were for work in education and 7.3% in health.

Industry and the economy made up 12.8% of the list, with science and technology honours making up 3.3%.
