An Aberdeen theologian has been awarded a top award and £10,000 for his work exploring faith and mental health.
Professor John Swinton, of Aberdeen University, has secured the Michael Ramsay Prize 2016 thanks to his book Dementia: Living in the Memories of God.
Launched in 2005, the prize is awarded every two to three years and celebrates promising contemporary theological writing from churches around the world.
He was presented the prize by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, at the Greenbelt faith festival in Kettering this week.
Prof Swinton, a former mental health nurse and hospital chaplain, said: “The book brings together my nursing and chaplaincy background in a theological context.
“It reconstructs dementia in a more positive way from being tragic to being surprisingly hopeful.”
