An Aberdonian has travelled thousands of miles to Africa to help bring education to rural villages.
Reverend Andy Hayes, pastor of Bridge of Don Baptist Church, is currently in Malawi, along with Jonathan Groves, the director of the Kerusso Trust.
The duo are teaching rural church leaders in partnership with a local charity, J-Life Malawi.
They arrived last week and will spend another fortnight in the south of the country.
Some of the villages and communities they will visit are so remote they will be forced to travel nearly 20 miles on dirt tracks and rough terrain to get there.
Rev Hayes said before his depar: “What a tremendous privilege to serve in Malawi with The Kerusso Trust and the Malawian team.
“The Bible is a tremendous resource to help church and community leaders as they speak into their own culture, about protecting the vulnerable, human rights and justice, and empowering their communities for development.”
As Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world it lacks a proper wide-ranging welfare system.
This means that pastors are relied upon to help the vulnerable people in their villages.
However, as a result of the country being in the grips of poverty, more than 90% of pastors have received no formal training.
The Kerusso Trust has been working in partnership with J-Life Malawi since 2012.
