An Aberdeen charity took on a north-east assault course yesterday to promote its campaign to raise vital funds in the battle against cancer.

The team from Friends of Anchor got down and dirty on the Glack Attack 5k course, in advance of the official run on Glack Hill in October 8.

Now in its fifth year, the challenge pits competitors against a gruelling series of muddy obstacles, which they have to clamber, slip and paddle through – and raise cash for good causes while doing it.

All money raised for the charity from this year’s event will go directly towards improving the treatment and care of cancer patients at The Anchor Unit at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Sarah-Jane Hogg, fundraising manager for Friends of Anchor, said: “It’s such a well-executed event with so much creativity, planning and time spent on improving the course year after year to make it even bigger and better.

“This year’s course is going to be the best year ever, and we’re looking forward to seeing all the contenders descend into the muddy madness on the Glack Hill in just three weeks’ time.

“Over 100 people will be pulling on their Friends of Anchor t-shirts to show their support for cancer and haematology patients in the north-east.

“The work Friends of Anchor does is only possible thanks to the remarkable generosity of partnerships like the one we have with Glack Attack and all those fundraising for the cause.”

This year’s event is already sold out, with around 500 participants expected to attend.

But there are still limited charity spaces available for the run with the Friends of Anchor team.
