A north-east filmmaker has urged the public to help him bring his latest idea to the big screen.
Director Malcolm Rumbles has launched a crowdfunding campaign, designed to finance his surrealist short film, Fran and the Moth.
The former Banchory Academy pupil has been working in the Scottish movie industry for years and now hopes the project, inspired by a story told to him by a colleague, can begin taking shape next month.
Mr Rumbles, from Birse, who wrote the script for the movie, is taking on the project with his other half, Morgane Cadot – Fran and the Moth’s producer.
The Auld Alliance Films pair – based in Glasgow – initially hoped to raise £1,000 for the movie through Indiegogo, but having surpassed this goal, have now set their sights on generating £2,000 to make the best version of the film possible.
The story revolves around an overworked businesswoman, who comes into conflict with one of the light-loving insects in a hotel room.
Miss Cadot added: “The idea came from a real anecdote Malcolm heard last year, about a lady who got herself into a fight with a big moth in her hotel room.
“We’ve been talking about this for a year now. Malcolm got started on a draft around last December, but work got in the way, so we got around to our final draft about three months ago.
“The money will be divided between the transport and catering of our crew as well as equipment hire. We’ll also be spending it on securing locations and production design.”
Mr Rumbles, 26, studied at Aberdeen College, prior to moving on to Stirling University.
He claimed crowdfunding was offering up new avenues for burgeoning filmmakers.
And he added: “Production really kicked off about two months ago, we’ve been concentrating on our crowdfunding campaign, but now we’re starting to look at getting cast and crew attached.
“There’s definitely not as (much) support for low-budget film funding in Scotland compared to the rest of the UK.
“There are a few independent institutions that provide support, but there was nothing that fitted with our time frame. Crowdfunding is an opportunity to bypass this that other generations never had.
They hope to begin shooting in mid-October and to have the film ready for festival screenings in 2017.
