Police are investigating following reports that the Rangers’ team bus has been vandalised in Aberdeen.
Photographs of the damage have been circulating on social media.
The graffiti appears to read Ibrox 71 and Durrant Dived.
The former is a reference to the tragendy at the Glasgow stadium on January 2, 1971, when 66 fans were crushed to death at the end of an Old Firm game.
The latter is thought to be a reference to the former Ibrox star Ian Durrant who was injured after a tackle from Dons star Neil Simpson in 1988.
It is thought the damage was done while the Rangers team were staying at a hotel near Aberdeen.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We have been made aware of reports of vandalism in the Deeside area of Aberdeenshire in the early hours of this morning.
“Inquiries into this matter are ongoing and anyone with information should contact Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 if you would prefer to remain anonymous.”
The two teams face each other at Pittodrie today, with kick off at 1pm.
When the bus arrived at Pittodrie, black tape had been put across the vandalism.
Earlier this week Police Scotland issued warnings to fans and those attending the game that anti-social behaviour of any form will not be tolerated before, during or after the game.
Chief Superintendent Campbell Thomson said: “My warning is clear – any form of anti-social behaviour whether it involves sectarianism, violence or disorder before, during or after the game is completely unnecessary, completely unwanted and will not be tolerated.
“If you are intent on causing trouble whether it be within the stadium, in your city or town, your local pub, your home or even online, you will be caught.
“Don’t think because you haven’t been caught at the time you’ve got away with it – retrospective inquiries will also be carried out to identify those responsible for any crimes committed.”
An Aberdeen FC spokesman said: “We are particularly disappointed with this act of vandalism and do not condone it.”
