Aberdeen residents warned of traffic chaos

Motorists in an Aberdeen suburb are being warned to expect delays while roadworks are carried out over the weekend.

Over this weekend, road users travelling through Culter will have to contend with temporary traffic signals on North Deeside Road and the temporary closure of Rob Roy Bridge.

Contractors are currently carrying out £530,000 of reconstruction work on the historic bridge, and as a result over the past number of weeks the crossing has been subject to traffic measures.

It will be completely shut tomorrow from 6am to 8pm, with a diversion along the B9077 South Deeside Road.

The bridge will also be closed from 6am on October 22 to 5am on October 24, and from Friday October 28 at 7pm to October 31 at 5am.

Meanwhile, gas works on the nearby North Deeside Road will mean temporary traffic signals will be in place from today until October 16 at 6pm close to the junction with Station Road East.

Aberdeen City Council’s transport and regeneration spokesman Councillor Ross Grant said the closure of Rob Roy’s Bridge was necessary to ensure the repairs are completed safely.

He said: “We hope to avoid as much disruption as possible and will aim to open the bridge earlier if all goes to plan.

“Due to the complex nature of the work and that is a very restricted site, it will be necessary to have complete closures at times and the intention is to limit these to weekends.

“We appreciate people’s patience while the works are being carried out.”
