A north-east artist is hoping her headgear at an exclusive hat show will prove a real feather in the cap for her career.
Fiona Muirhead-Kerr has been selected from a massive pool of international designers to exhibit her designs at the globally-renowned London Hat Week this year.
Work by Mrs Muirhead-Kerr, who is based in Aberdeen and was born in Fraserburgh, will be showcased at the event which runs in the capital until Wednesday.
Art-inspired hats, created by thoroughly modern milliners from more than 20 countries, will be on display at the London campus of Coventry University, via the X Terrace Fashion Platform.
The Scottish hat-maker derived inspiration close to home for her headgear, which is based on Joan Eardley’s paintings of the north-east coastline at Catterline.
Mrs Muirhead-Kerr, a primary school teacher in Aberdeen, said: “It is a real honour to have my work chosen to exhibit at London Hat Week.
“Since graduating from Grays School of Art with a First in Fine Art in 2002, I have worked hard to express my art in various media, whilst balancing my day job as an art teacher and support for learning teacher, [she is] currently at Kirkhill Primary.
“I have been designing, producing and selling hats for a number of years and I was particularly pleased to exhibit at the first Dundee Wearable Art/Fashion Show a few years back and win third place in the prestigious International Greyfriars Tartan fashion show in 2015.
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to take my art/millinery to such a prestigious London event.
“I think the north-east of Scotland has produced and continues to produce some amazing artistic and creative talents, many of whom, such as Bill Gibb, have been major influences on me.”
Fiona is married to north-east region MSP Liam Kerr, who added: “I am immensely proud of all Fiona has achieved and continues to achieve.
“Her passion for the traditions, art and the people of the north east has always been clear to me and I find it amazing she is able to express that through her art.”
