Police are investigating after two women were groped in an Aberdeen park.

Officers have received two separate reports of a man in his late teens targeting women in Seaton Park, near Hillhead Halls.

Both incidents took place on the steps near the student accommodation between 5pm and 5.30pm in the past fortnight.

The culprit is described as white, between the ages of 17 and 20, around 5ft7in in height with short fair hair.

He is believed to have been was wearing dark sportswear including a hooded top and jogging bottoms at the time.

Detective Constable Kirsty Munro urged anyone with information to get in touch.

She said: “Neither of the females who were involved in the incidents were hurt or injured in any way, however understandably they were concerned and felt uncomfortable about what had happened.

“Given the similarities of the incidents, uniformed officers will be giving particular attention to the area and I would urge people using the park to be on their guard.

“In saying this, these type of incidents are extremely rare in the area and the city generally, and I would like to reassure the community that police are taking these reports seriously.

“I would also ask anyone who recognises the description of the male provided and can assist with the investigation to contact police on 101 with information, or the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 if you would prefer to remain anonymous.”

Last night local councillor Ross Grant said it was “concerning” to hear about the incidents, and urged people to remain vigilant.

“Generally speaking it is a very safe park,” he said.

“I would urge people in the park, particularly students and women, to make sure they are vigilant.

“I would ask anyone with information about the individual perpetrating these acts to come forwards.

“It is not pleasant or good for the community.”
