Top artists works in sale “extravaganza” for cancer centre

Art lovers are being given the chance to snap-up works by leading figures in aid of a cancer support charity.

The “pop-up extravaganza” has been organised to boost the coffers of the Maggie’s Centre at Foresterhill in Aberdeen.

It opened two years ago thanks to a huge fundraising drive supported by the Press and Journal and has already helped more than 13,000 people.

Next month’s event is the brainchild of Doric Pub Company boss and property consultant David Reid and Tony Dinozzi of Wood Group.

They were inspired by the centre’s work and decided to put their art market connections to good use to help the cause.

More than 50 artists will be represented at the sale at Aberdeen’s Chester Hotel on November 15 and 16.

They include familiar local and national names such as Iain Faulkner, Jack Morocco, Chris Bushe, Gerard Burns, Glen Scouller, Christine McArthur, Marion Drummond, Stephen Mangan, Rusudana Gloti, Marie Buchan, Hazel McAllister and Sandie Youngson.

A variety of genres will be on offer, including figurative works, abstracts, surrealism, still life and landscapes – and prices will range from £50 to £15,000 to try to attract everyone from gift-hunters to serious investors.

Commission normally taken by dealers and galleries will instead go straight into funding cancer services at Maggie’s.

Mr Reid said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people to start collecting art which is modestly priced right up to major investment pieces

“The fact that is goes to support such a worthy charity just adds to the joy for anyone looking to purchase.”

Entry to the art sale and show is free – and comes with 15% off dining at the hotel.

Maggie’s Centre head, Susan Sutherland, said: “We are so grateful to Tony and David for all their hard work in bringing these brilliant artists together for the benefit of Maggie’s.

“Maggie’s Aberdeen relies on voluntary donations to support and develop its unique, high quality programme of support.

“The charity’s aim is to make the biggest difference possible to people living with cancer and their family and friends.”
