Hardy hillwalkers who tackled three of Scotland’s highest peaks in under 24 hours proudly handed over their charity cheques at a ceremony in Aberdeen yesterday.
The intrepid group of nine from around the north-east, who split into four separate teams, raised a total of £3,294 by scaling Ben Nevis, Ben Macdui and Braeriach in August.
Red Rox Events and Fundraising, an organisation which is currently in the process of gaining accreditation as a charity, staged the annual endurance competition.
And this year, the all-female Munro Musketeers braved the winds and punishing temperatures to beat the record with a time of 15 hours and 18 minutes.
Delighted fundraisers turned out yesterday at Inchgarth community centre in Aberdeen to present their cheques to causes ranging from Cancer Research UK to NHS Tayside.
Tracey Duncan, secretary of Red Rox Events, said that, while they encouraged participants to train before taking on the challenge, some had proved more enthusiastic than others.
She added: “You get a wide variety of people who want to take part in the event, ranging from real fitness fanatics to those without much experience.
“Some come down and say ‘never again’, but this year, everyone seems to have really enjoyed themselves.
“We hope the event continues to grow and raise much-needed funds for these charities.”
Ellen MacGregor of the Scottish Air Ambulance charity received a cheque for £211.
She said: “This money is very gratefully received and will help keep us operational.
“The time saved with the helicopter really does save lives, so all donations are welcome.”
