‘Many are inspired to help the charity because they have been personally affected’

Emma Moore has only been in her role as community fundraiser for less than six months.

But in that time she has come to appreciate the generosity of people in the north-east.

Chas aims to raise more than £10million each year to support Rachel House and Robin House and its other services across Scotland.

Miss Moore said many people are inspired to help the charity because they have been personally affected.

She said: “I think charity starts at a community level, it’s the more grass-roots level of fundraising.

“Quite a lot of our volunteers who help us know someone who has used Chas or have used it themselves.

“We also have a lot of bereaved families who fundraise for us throughout the year.”

Miss Moore, who covers the north-east and the Highlands and Islands, spends much of her time organising fundraising events or helping others to do.

She also gives talks to community groups, such as rotary clubs, and speaks to school children.

And it’s youngsters that she finds are often the most inspired to help the charity.

She added: “I was speaking to a group of girls recently and when I told them that some of these children were the same age as them and didn’t get to school, it was really emotive.”
