This may be the last time the popular Christmas market is held on Union Terrace, as work on pedestrianising Broad Street will begin next year.
Senior city figures have indicated moving the market to the partially pedestrianised street would be an “ideal” as it would avoid the closure of two busy city centre streets at the same time.
It is understood that if the plans were to proceed with the idea then the buses and bicycles that will be allowed on Broad Street would be temporarily banned while the festivities take place.
City centre manager for Aberdeen Inspired, Geoff Cooper, said while speaking at a recent meeting of the Disability Equity Partnership: “The intention is that it won’t be in Union Terrace. The feeling is that it is too difficult for movement around the city.”
He added that Broad Street was “definitely one of the options being looked at.”
The market has also been criticised for a seemingly low number of local producers.
Finance convener Willie Young said: “Moving it to Broad Street is something we would absolutely look at, it would be total folly to ignore it as a solution.
“This is why we are making these investments so that Broad Street can be used for all sorts of purposes in the future. “
