Twelve 75ft beams were delivered to the north-east today for the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route/Balmedie-Tipperty (AWPR/B-T) project.
The beams will be used in the construction of the new bridge at Milltimber Brae, south of North Deeside Road.
The new crossing will provide vehicular access to local properties, and also a shared use path to reconnect the Deeside Way.
The beam were taken to the site via abnormal load trucks.
A Transport Scotland spokesman said: “The contractor has been working closely with Police Scotland and the local authorities to minimise any inconvenience that may be caused due to beam deliveries. The deliveries are due to take place when the roads are quieter for safety reasons.
“Beam deliveries are integral to the project, which will have 75 principal structures, including two river crossings, one railway bridge, and over 70 culverts.”
He added: “We would like to thank road users and the local community for their on-going support and patience during the construction works.
“The new bridge will provide the local community with continued access along the Deeside Way and over the new AWPR. When fully reinstated, the revised route for the Deeside Way will increase marginally in length by around 197ft.”
The route was chosen following an extensive consultation and, at the request of Aberdeen City Council, it allows for any potential future reinstatement of the railway line, should it be developed.
Until the bridge is complete and open to use, an alternative temporary diversion route has been put in place, via Milltimber Brae and North Deeside Road, making use of public roads and public rights of way to safely guide users around the works.
