Anti-fur campaigners, protesting against a north-east shop, have received hundreds of signatures of support.

Say No Fur to Aberdeen Fashion now has 1,600 names on its petition named ‘Escale France: Stop selling real fur’ a city centre shop owned by Karine Franck.

However, Ms Franck is insistent she will not back down and said: “I sold out of fur last year, so this year I decided to buy more – and people still come in to ask for it.”

A campaign group has recently published an Aberdeen Fur trail and has plans for a similar one in Aberdeenshire.

Suz Reid, their co-leader, added: “The petition ends in January and we will hand it into Ms Franck then. We have done this because of her lack of willingness to talk to us – we have had very open dialogues with other shops owners with some choosing to stop stocking items.

“My kids come along to campaign, it is very peaceful. The one time we wore masks was during our candle-light vigil, which was silent and was to symbolise our respect for the animals that had died to make fur.”

The campaigners met outside the George Street shop on Saturday, along with a toy rabbit covered in fake blood sitting in front of a headstone.

Mike Moser, of the British Fur Trader Association added: “Although protest is louder than informed debate, we should not confuse ideology with facts.

“The level of abuse that Karine Franck has suffered is really, quite appalling.”
