Aberdeen gardeners give man early Christmas present – by finding his lost wedding ring down a drain

A missing wedding ring which fell down a drain in an Aberdeen park has been found by two dedicated gardeners.

Rob Devlin and Shane Walsh, who both work at Duthie Park, were approached by a very worried man on Wednesday who said his ring had slipped off his finger.

And with only a general idea of the location he dropped it, the man – who does not wish to be identified – feared that it would be lost forever.

But after a lengthy search through five drains and sifting through piles of leaves and mud, Mr Walsh and Mr Devlin spotted the golden glint of the ring among the muck.

Mr Devlin said: “We didn’t have much hope when we started, we thought it must have been washed away.
“But thanks to the drain not being as full of water as normal we were able to work our way along the drains with our hands until Shane found the ring at the fifth and final hole.

“We had a real feeling of achievement and the owner was overjoyed when we returned the ring to him.”

Councillor Jean Morrison, vice convener of Aberdeen City Council’s communities, housing and infrastructure committee said: “Well done to Rob and Shane on their efforts and finding the wedding ring.

“The team at Duthie Park are all dedicated and willing to go the extra mile to help visitors so it’s no surprise that they came up trumps for the ring’s owner.”
