Residents of a high rise in Aberdeen have complained about “disgusting” ants inhabiting their home.
Non-native insects known as Pharaoh Ants have been spotted in Regent Court in Seaton.
One resident, who did not wish to be named, said they had been seen running up the walls.
He said: “It is actually disgusting seeing the ants going about.
“I want to see something done about this, it makes us feel like we have a dirty house and we don’t.
“I’ve seen them running along in the communal bit around the walls.
“I have seen some running along my bath as well.”
Kevin Stewart, MSP for Aberdeen Central, revealed he had been contacted by concerned constituents and said Aberdeen City Council should have addressed concerns earlier.
He said: “The city council has confirmed to me there have been reports of these Pharaoh ants across Aberdeen, and I am disappointed not to have seen that communicated to the public on a wider scale before now.
“I have had constituents contact me with concerns about these strange insects appearing on the higher floors of high-rise buildings, and many are understandably distressed by the site of hundreds of ants crawling about their homes.”
A spokeswoman for Aberdeen City Council insisted the insects posed no threat.
She said: “Housing and environmental health pest control are aware of the situation and are treating properties as householders are made aware of it and monitoring the situation.
“While unpleasant, Pharaoh ants pose no public health significance.”
