An Aberdeenshire community has created a lasting tribute to a schoolboy killed in a tragic crash on one of the north-east’s busiest roads.
Eleven-year-old Bobbie Douglas was hit by a van two years ago as he crossed the southbound lane of the A90 Aberdeen to Stonehaven road, close to his home in Newtonhill.
He was rushed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, but later died of his injuries.
The youngster, who was a keen kickboxer and Dons fan, had just moved to the area from Kincorth with his mum Tracy, sister nine-year-old Demi, and brother Danny, 17.
Now, a bench has been dedicated to his memory at Kincorth Skatepark.
A special plaque, put in place by the Kincorth and Leggart Community Council, has been placed on the bench.
Bobby’s mum Tracy, 35, said: “I went and saw the plaque when it was installed and I did get a little emotional seeing it, but I was laughing too.
“It was covered in mud and Bobby was exactly the same, he was always covered in something.
“I have great memories of Bobby in Kincorth and he would have loved the skatepark.
“Everyone in Kincorth knew Bobby and it is a lovely touch from the community council to commemorate him in this way.
“He grew up in Kincorth so it is really nice of them to do this for a Kincorth loon.
“He was always active so he would have probably been in that skatepark every day.”
