Courage on the Catwalk has highlighted the resilience of many women fighting cancer.

And now, an equivalent male campaign, Brave, has received a huge response, with organisers urging more men to apply before the closing date of Thursday, February 9.

Brave was unveiled by Friends of Anchor earlier this year and the inaugural event will see 18 men model clothing from leading local retailers.

Courage on the Catwalk was launched in 2013 and has already raised £349,000 for cancer care, and it is hoped Brave will prove to be similarly successful.

The charity group is aiming to raise £1million which will bring world-class oncology research to Aberdeen.

Friends of Anchor has already received more than 40 enquiries about Brave, which is being held on Friday, May 5 at the Beach Ballroom, and the organisation confirmed they have been overwhelmed by the response from cancer sufferers.

Rhona Miller, Senior Finance and Fundraiser Executive, said: “The amount of enquiries we have had has been absolutely incredible.

“We’re delighted with the number of applications. With this being the first year, we were unsure of how much interest Brave would get even though we knew there was an appetite for the event.”

Mrs Miller also believes that the amount of interest so far has justified Friends of Anchor taking the plunge and creating Brave.

She added: “We’ve had a lot of people sending in applications and saying, even if they don’t get selected to be a model, they will buy tickets or a table at the event because they are delighted to see the event taking place.”

Mrs Miller also encouraged anybody else who is considering applying to do so.

She said: “If anybody out there is at all contemplating it, then just go for it and see what happens.

“This is going to be an incredible experience for those taking part.

“The camaraderie amongst the people taking part will be great.

“This is also an opportunity to share their stories. Traditionally, men don’t necessarily speak so openly about an illness, so it’s just a unique opportunity for anyone taking part.”
