A former Aberdeen student wanted for the murder of a colleague has been spotted in a remote part of Nepal.

Harris Binotti has been on the run since November after the body of his colleague Gary Ferguson was found in his flat in Rangoon, Myanmar.

It is understood that the two men had been drinking when a fight broke out outside Mr Binotti’s flat.

Binotti, 25, who studied at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, fled the country the next day, taking a flight to neighbouring Thailand.

The two men both taught English at the Horizon International School in Rangoon. Mr Ferguson had been there for about a year, while Binotti had only spent three months at the international school.

Mr Ferguson’s family launched a social media campaign to track him down, desperate for answers.

Now a German backpacker Dieter has contacted Mr Ferguson’s brother Martin, claiming to have seen him in Nepal.

He said he met Binotti 900 miles from Myanmar in the Dhading region – and recognised him from a video.

He wrote: “I am convinced I met his guy. We were travelling and decided to rest and this tall guy was sitting alone having

a meal. He was travelling by motorbike, a black one.

“He looks exactly like the guy in your video. He asked us if we knew where we could find some good hashish.

“His accent was Scottish. He looked rather bewildered, with a beard and on edge.

“It was a brief encounter but me and my girlfriend are convinced. I hope this helps you to get this guy.”

It is hoped that this new information could lead to a breakthrough for the family of the Northern Irish father-of-one. It has

been passed on to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).

However, authorities in Myanmar are yet to issue an arrest warrant for Binotti.
