Support worker allegedly picked up autistic child and held him against a door

A support worker could be struck off after he allegedly picked an autistic child up in the air and held him against a door.

Povilas Stirblys was working for Grampian Autistic Society (GAS) when the alleged offences took place, between December 1, 2014 and February 6, 2015.

Mr Stirblys, who no longer works for the society, faces a hearing before the Scottish Social Services Council later this month.

It is alleged he verbally abused an eight-year-old boy on, or around, December 14 while in a “playscheme” session at an Aberdeen care centre.

Mr Stirblys is alleged to have used a number of phrases to the child, including “shut up and be normal” and “stop it, shut up, just stop it” or words to that effect and it’s claimed he swore at the child.

Mr Stirblys is also alleged to have picked the boy up and held him against a door, and is also accused of holding his legs down while he “presented challenging behaviour”.

In addition, it is claimed he failed to report the incident.

He is further accused of leaving another autistic child on his own, described as “aged between 8 and 9”, who subsequently left the premises unattended.

The last charge he faces is that he failed to notify the SSSC that he had been sacked by GAS.

His hearing is expected to last three days, and will take place from February 22-24.

Neither Mr Stirblys or GAS could be reached for comment.
