Police have warned parents to take care after a crackdown on anti-social drivers outside Aberdeen schools.

Eleven motorists charged in connection with the condition of their vehicle and for contravening traffic signs during the targeted operation conducted over two days in the Torry area.

A further three drivers were warned regarding excessive speed.

In addition, four motorists were issued with penalty charge parking notices by Aberdeen city wardens while 28 drivers were given advice with regards to their parking.

During the high visibility operation, police also traced two high priority wanted people and one male was reported regarding a breach of an Anti-social Behaviour Order.

Constable James Griffin, who led the operation, said: “Following concerns raised by the local community, this two day operation was organised to tackle inconsiderate driving and parking in the Torry area, particularly around the local primary schools on Walker Road and Girdleness Road.

“The operation focused on education and prevention, with both Police and City Wardens carrying out high visibility proactive patrols near to the schools, particularly at ‘picking up and dropping off’ times.

“I would like to remind parents that they must adhere to local parking regulations and traffic signs, and to not to park on the yellow zig zag lines, near to junctions or anywhere that may cause an obstruction. Please bear in mind that children may be in the area and to drive at a speed suitable for the conditions.

“Children can at times become excited and there is always potential for them to cross the road without looking; motorists should always exercise caution when driving near to schools.”
