‘Anything to raise money and support Friends of Anchor is absolutely fine with me’

One of the men who will take part in the inaugural Brave catwalk is thankful to Friends of Anchor not only for the way he was treated, but for suggesting he applied to join the show.

Keith Cowe was diagnosed with testicular cancer last October and only finished his treatment in January.

The Kintore resident heard about Brave through the nurses in the Anchor unit where he was looked after.

Mr Cowe was grateful for the care he received, but also their suggestion he should throw his hat into the ring.

The 40-year-old said: “When I was getting my treatment, one of the nurses actually approached me and said: ‘You should put your name forward for Brave, it’s the first year it’s happening and it’s similar to Courage on the Catwalk’.

“For one of the nurses to approach me and say I should put myself forward was really nice.

“I was totally up for doing it. I have seen the work that they do because I’ve been on the ward and have been treated in there.

“Anything to raise money and support the charity is absolutely fine with me and I’m always up for a bit of a laugh anyway.”

All the money raised from Brave will go towards bringing world-class oncology research to the north-east as part of Friends of Anchor’s £1million “Dream Big” campaign.
