New paint job for beachside bench

A beachside bench in Aberdeen has enjoyed a colourful new paint job, following a collaboration between a north-east charity and the council.

A trail of over 40 “friendly benches” have been laid out and have been designed and painted by individual organisations with help from the local authority.

Plaques being provided by Recognition Express North East, provide the website of the individual organisations, so that visitors can get more information.

This month, Voluntary Services Aberdeen placed their bench on the city’s beach front.

Vicki Youngson, corporate fundraising co-ordinator at the charity, said: “As the largest social care charity in Aberdeen, we were delighted to take part in this project.

“It is an opportunity to raise awareness of the wonderful work VSA do across the city, while also brightening up the local community.

“We chose the beach front as it is close to our Head Office in the Castlegate, in addition to being a popular choice for many of our service users who enjoy a walk along the beach front.

“We chose to paint the colours of our directorate on the bench to raise awareness of the wide range of local people we support, ranging from birth to end of life care, as well as promoting all of our social media platforms and our website to enable us to get across key messages.

“We are proud to say that 96p in every pound goes to direct charitable expenditure, and every penny stays in Aberdeen. We wanted to get across the message of ‘your city, your charity.”
