An Aberdeen man who threw his partner out of a holiday caravan and broke her leg was jailed for eight months yesterday.

Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood told 45 year old Ian Muir (45) of Bellfield Road, Bridge of Don: “Given the nasty injury and the way it came about by deliberately throwing her from a height from a caravan, I find it difficult to see any other disposal but a custodial one.”

Last month, Mour appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted assaulting Carla Munro in a caravan at Parkdean Caravan Park, Nairn on July 3, 2016 by repeatedly punching her head and body and throwing her from a caravan to her severe injury.

Sentence was deferred for a background report and Sheriff Fleetwood warned Muir to expect imprisonment.

Moir’s solicitor John Ferrie said his client was prepared for custody.

He added: “He accepts he shouldn’t have done it and it is of a serious nature. He is gutted he acted in the manner he did and accepts she must have been in a lot of pain.

“He was in a long term relationship, they were living together and there was talk of marriage. His actions have lost all of that and have ruined his life and hers.”

At the hearing last month, fiscal depute Michelle Molley told the court that Muir and Ms Munro had gone to the caravan park for a week-end break with friends and family.

The court heard they spent the evening in the bar and Ms Munro and the other couple returned to the caravan to go to bed.

“He arrived a short time later and went into the bedroom. He was heavily intoxicated. An argument started, he became angry and pushed her. He repeatedly punched her on the head and body and she curled up to protect herself.

“She left the bedroom and he took hold of her, opened the door and threw her out down the steps on to the grass.

“She fell heavily to the ground and was injured. She was terrified what Muir might do to her so she shuffled behind the caravan out of the light in an attempt to hide.”

Ms Molley said the police and an ambulance were called.

“She sustained a broken left fibula just below the knee and a plate had to be inserted to repair it.” Ms Molley went on.
